Mr. Chris Jojo Arhin Arthur, the newly elected Parliamentary Candidate for the Agona West New Patriotic Party (NPP), has embarked on a ‘thank you tour' to show appreciation to the electorate following his victory in the parliamentary primary held last Saturday.
The tour commenced at the Swedru Central Market, where Mr. Arthur and his supporters conveyed their gratitude to the traders for their prayers and unwavering support during the primary election. Moving forward, they proceeded to the Mandela Market, the second largest market in the Agona West Municipality, to extend their appreciation for the consistent time, loyalty, and commitment shown by the traders.
Mr. Arthur emerged victorious in the parliamentary primary, defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison. He secured 240 votes, while the MP polled 152 votes. Other contestants included Mr. Ben Yamoah with 221 votes, Mr. Yawson Otoo with 168 votes, and Mr. Joseph Afankwa with 155 votes.
The primary, characterized by analysts as “fierce and titanic,” faced delays due to a court injunction filed by Mr. Afankwa at the Cape Coast High Court. Despite the challenges, Mr. Arthur, who serves as the Technical Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), emerged victorious.
During the ‘thank you tour,' Mr. Arthur received cheers and assurances of support from the market women, who openly declared his victory as a positive sign for the party in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Addressing supporters after the tour, Mr. Arthur emphasized the need for a united front within the party. He highlighted the importance of rallying more supporters, including floating voters, to secure a convincing victory in the upcoming elections. Mr. Arthur disclosed plans for an aggressive campaign drive, which will include visits to churches, mosques, and other organizations within the constituency, as part of their efforts to maximize votes for the party.
