The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 2023 African Games has officially announced the postponement of the event to 2024.
This decision was revealed at a press conference that took place in Accra on Tuesday.
Although specific dates for the rescheduled games were not disclosed, the original date was scheduled to take place from August 4 to August 19, 2023.
Fortunately, the dispute was resolved when a new protocol agreement was signed last week on the sidelines of the AU Heads of States Summit in Addis Ababa.
The preparation for the event has been fraught with difficulties, and Ghana has been struggling to meet the necessary hosting facilities' requirements.
The Borteyman Sports Complex, designated for hosting the swimming, boxing, and indoor sporting events, is notorious for being behind schedule, while organizers are also in a race against time to complete the University of Ghana Stadium.
The University of Ghana's academic calendar has also complicated works on the games village, as refurbishment works could not progress at the required pace due to the continuous presence of students at the Diaspora Halls.
Despite the postponement of the event, Ghana remains committed to ensuring that the games are successfully hosted in 2024.
