Dr. Samuel Okoe Amanquah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpone-Katamanso, has revealed plans for the assembly to collaborate with the Ghana Water Company (GWC) and international grant organizations to facilitate the connection of water to the municipality. Speaking at a town hall meeting held at the Kpone Methodist Church, Dr. Amanquah addressed concerns regarding the delayed provision of essential amenities, particularly potable water, to residents.
Dr. Amanquah acknowledged the initial assumption that companies operating within the municipality would support water connection efforts. However, upon presenting the budget to these companies, it became evident that they were unwilling to provide sponsorship. Consequently, the assembly has sought partnerships with GWC and international grant organizations to address this issue.
He assured residents that engagements with GWC at the regional level had been fruitful, and plans for water connection had been finalized. Dr. Amanquah urged residents to remain patient as the assembly works diligently to ensure that necessary amenities are provided for their comfort and well-being.
Emphasizing the roles of government agencies like GWC and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in service provision, Dr. Amanquah urged residents to exert pressure on these agencies rather than solely relying on the assembly. He emphasized the expectation for GWC to take the lead in laying pipes to communities and new settlement areas, highlighting that access to water services typically involves associated costs.
During the open forum session, residents expressed frustration over the delayed provision of essential amenities, including potable water, poor road conditions, and the absence of drainage systems. These concerns underscored the pressing need for collaborative efforts between the assembly, government agencies, and community stakeholders to address infrastructure challenges and improve living standards within the municipality.
