Dr. Michael Abu Sakara Foster, Founder of the National Interest Movement (NIM), has unveiled plans by the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) to nominate independent parliamentary candidates in several swing constituencies across Ghana.
Dr. Foster disclosed that the Alliance has identified constituencies with a significant swing voter base, not dominated by either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where independent candidates have a strong chance of winning.
“While we may not contest in all parliamentary seats due to resource constraints, we aim to support self-made individuals with deep community connections to contest in swing constituencies,” Dr. Foster stated during a media briefing in Accra.
The NIM has identified at least seven such constituencies where its candidates will run, while the Movement for Change (M4C), founded by Alan Kyerematen, will field independent candidates in other swing seats.
The announcement comes after the formation of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), a coalition of political entities and individuals, including the NIM and M4C. The coalition aims to mobilize Ghanaians, particularly youth and women, from diverse backgrounds to elect the first independent candidate as President in the 2024 general elections.
The ARC pledges to prioritize breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering national prosperity, aiming to challenge the long-standing dominance of the NDC and NPP in Ghanaian politics. The coalition criticizes the traditional duopoly for failing to address the country's developmental challenges during their combined 32 years in power.
Highlighting the divisiveness and winner-takes-all mentality in Ghanaian politics, the ARC advocates for an all-inclusive Government of National Unity, comprising representatives from political parties, the business community, farmers, labour unions, and faith-based organizations, to drive holistic national development.
