The Wa Central Prisons hosted a pullout ceremony to bid farewell to Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Mr. Joseph Damolbil Miyella, the outgoing Upper West Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS).
The ceremony, attended by the Upper West Regional Security Council, traditional leaders, representatives from security services, and members of the Retired Prison Officers Association of Ghana (REPOAG), was marked by a somber atmosphere.
During his tenure, Mr. Miyella implemented several interventions to enhance conditions at the prisons, including the cultivation of crops to supplement inmates' diets.
He actively sought support from stakeholders, individuals, faith-based organizations, and corporate bodies to address the inadequacies in the feeding allocation.
Additionally, he successfully lobbied a non-governmental organization, Shara Advocates for Change, to construct two additional cells, contributing to efforts to reduce prison overcrowding.
Mr. Miyella expressed gratitude for the support received from the Upper West Regional Minister and the Fulani Chief, especially in handling issues related to Fulani inmates.
In acknowledging Mr. Miyella's contributions, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Chairman of the Upper West Regional Security Council and Regional Minister, noted the significant impact the outgoing Commander had on the security architecture of the region.
He commended Mr. Miyella for his distinguished career within the Ghana Prisons Service, praising his achievements and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Mr. Miyella, who enlisted in the GPS in December 2002, held various ranks during his career, rising to the position of Assistant Director of Prisons. His service included international assignments with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and the UN Mission in Haiti.
The ceremony concluded with Mr. Miyella receiving gifts from well-wishers, including REPOAG, and a traditional gift—a dog—from the Dagaaba Community of the Wa Central Prisons.
