Taxi driver arrested for causing fatal accident in Sunyani

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, March 17, 2024, as a 26-year-old taxi driver, Gilbert Adika, was arrested by police in following a fatal on the Sunyani-Abesim stretch. The collision resulted in the death of one pedestrian and left the driver and another pedestrian with severe injuries.

According to a police situational report, the crash occurred around 8:30 am when Adika was driving a Toyota Vitz taxi cab, registered as GR7260-23, from Abesim to Sunyani. Near the police Experimental School along the road, the taxi veered off into the opposite lane and struck two pedestrians, ultimately colliding with a tree.

Tragically, one of the pedestrians, identified as Hakino Shaibu, 24 years old, succumbed to their injuries. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation.

Both the driver and the remaining victim sustained severe injuries and were promptly rushed to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, despite efforts by medical personnel at the hospital’s emergency unit, one of the victims was pronounced dead.

The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the factors contributing to the tragic collision.

As the community mourns the loss of Hakino Shaibu, the authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into the matter.
