Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School celebrates 23rd anniversary

The Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School (SEDASS) in Asokore, situated in the New Juaben North Municipality of the , marked its 23rd anniversary alongside its second Speech and Prize Giving Day. The commemoration was held under the theme: “Promoting academic and moral excellence in the midst of challenges of the 21st century. The role of stakeholders.”

Dr. Nana Sifa Twum, a Member of the Institute of Public Relations in Ghana, served as the Guest Speaker for the occasion. Dr. Twum emphasized the importance of moral education, highlighting its role in teaching individuals about the consequences of their actions, fostering empathy and consideration for others, and instilling the significance of personal integrity. He stressed the need for moral education to be integrated into the core training alongside general knowledge acquisition and skills training to prevent the emergence of professionals who excel in their careers but lack moral principles.

Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, Eastern Regional Director of Education, underscored the pivotal roles played by various stakeholders in education, including parents, , institutions, and students themselves. She emphasized the crucial role of parents as primary educators in their children's lives, urging them to actively participate in their academic journey and reinforce moral values at home to lay a solid foundation for their overall development. Mrs Owusu commended the Adventist community for its strict adherence to high moral standards, urging the school's management, tutors, and students to uphold these values amidst the challenges of globalization.

As part of the Speech and Prize Giving Day activities, the school recognized and awarded 62 outstanding students in various subjects, including geography, mathematics, general science, social studies, and literature. Master Felix Delali Kuma emerged as the overall best form three student, while Ms Stephanie Serwaa Mante clinched the title of the overall best form two student. Special awards were also presented to exemplary teaching and non-teaching staff, who received citations of merit and other prizes.

Providing a brief history of the school, Mrs. Naomi Abena Yeboah Abasi, the headmistress of SEDASS, revealed that the institution was established in 1991, gaining approval for full operation in 2001. Currently, the school boasts a student population of 1,960, with 126 teaching staff and 41 non-teaching staff contributing to its academic and moral excellence.
