Fuseni Mumuni, the bodyguard of Second Lady Samira Bawumia, who tragically lost his life in a ghastly accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway, has been laid to rest.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 13, when a commercial vehicle collided with one of the vehicles in the Second Lady's convoy as they were returning from Bonwire in the Ashanti region.
Mrs Bawumia and officials from the office of the Vice President gathered at the Madina Muslim cemetery on Sunday to bid farewell to Fuseni Mumuni.
Among the mourners was Sammi Awuku, the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), who described Mumuni as a dedicated patriot.
Awuku said, “This is somebody who on any day when there is a call to duty, he is present and he makes himself available and he supports. He died in the line of duty.”
Expressing condolences to the family, Awuku acknowledged the irreplaceable loss and prayed for comfort for the grieving family. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the collision involved a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Mercedes Benz C180, and a Benz Sprinter, resulting in varying degrees of injuries to eight individuals who were promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
