The Red Sea Camels of Eritrea demonstrated their prowess on day three of the 13th Africa Games held at the Olebu-Ablekuma route in Accra, clinching two gold medals and a silver medal in impressive fashion.
Led by Sprinter Nahom Zeray Araya, the Red Sea Camels showcased power, pace, and precision in the 84-kilometre men's elite race, covering 30 laps. Araya secured the first position, followed closely by his compatriot Merhawi Kudus Ghebremedlein, with South Africa's Blaine Conrad clinching third place.
Araya continued his dominance in the U-23 category, claiming the top spot once again. De Comarmond Aurelie of Mauritius secured the second position, with Blaine Conrad of South Africa finishing third.
A total of 96 riders participated in the men's elite race, with 34 unable to complete the demanding course. Despite Ghana's strong representation, only 31 riders managed to finish the race.
In the women's category, covering a 56km race over 20 laps, South Africa's Hayley Preen seized the gold medal. Greff Anri Krugel of Namibia secured second place, while Diane Ingabre of Rwanda clinched the third position.
Despite the challenging course, 44 female riders initially took part, but 22 were unable to finish, including Ghana's sole representatives.
