Operation Mobilisation (OM) Ghana, a charitable organization, has extended assistance to head potters, commonly known as ‘Kayayie,' within the Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). On April 1, 2024, the organization provided support to selected potters to either return to school or learn a vocation, in a brief ceremony at the forecourt of the AMA in Accra.

Mr. Chris A Nsando, Country Director of OM Ghana, highlighted the organization's recognition of the needs of head potters, leading to their intervention. OM has previously supported around 500 women head potters in the Northern and Ashanti Regions, focusing on formal education and vocational training, with plans to extend similar assistance in the Greater Accra region.

Mr. Solomon Noi, Director of Waste Management at AMA, speaking on behalf of Ms. Elizabeth Sackey, Mayor of AMA, praised OM for its support. He emphasized the AMA's commitment to backing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable individuals in Accra's streets.

Mr. Noi noted the challenges faced by head potters due to their minimal earnings and highlighted the Assembly's efforts to enhance their work environment, including market expansions, provision of escalators for easier goods conveyance, and ensuring cleanliness in the city for better living conditions.
