Mr Joseph Kumah Mackay, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Sene West constituency in the Bono East Region, has called for reconciliation among feuding factions within the party. Mackay emphasized that unity is crucial to secure more parliamentary seats in the upcoming Elections 2024 and to achieve the party's goal of “breaking the eight,” a reference to winning a third consecutive term in office.
Addressing concerns about factionalism, internal wrangling, and squabbles within the NPP, Mackay warned that such divisions could weaken the party's front and make it challenging to retain political power in the next general election. He stressed the need for urgent action to address these internal issues, emphasizing that unresolved factionalism might impact the NPP's fortunes in the upcoming elections.
Mackay, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA), made the appeal during a meeting at Kwame-Danso, the constituency's capital. The meeting provided an opportunity for him to interact and reconcile with the three other parliamentary aspirants and their followers who contested him in the NPP's orphan constituency parliamentary primaries.
Highlighting the importance of unity, Mackay emphasized that a united front would enable the NPP to maintain and recapture parliamentary seats lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections. He expressed confidence in winning the Sene West seat and widening the vote margins in the presidential election through development achievements in the constituency.
Accompanied by NPP executives from the Bono East Region and Sene West constituency, Mackay later visited the Wiase Traditional Council to introduce himself and seek support. The call for reconciliation and unity within the NPP comes as political parties in Ghana gear up for the upcoming elections, with the NPP aiming to secure a decisive victory.
