Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (Ahafo South Mine) emerged as the best company in Ghana at the prestigious Ghana Club 100 awards, held on Friday, December 8, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The mining firm secured the top position, surpassing 99 other companies, including Scancom Plc Ghana (MTN Ghana) and Amanex Company Limited.
The event, organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in collaboration with the MIE Group, celebrated the top 100 companies contributing significantly to Ghana's economic growth across various sectors.
This year's theme, “Accelerating Economic Growth: Amplifying Ghana's Global Market Footprint through AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area),” emphasized the importance of promoting investment, trade, and knowledge exchange.
The financial sector dominated the list, with Goldfields Ghana (Tarkwa Mine) securing the fourth position, and FBNBank Ghana claiming the 10th spot. The awards aimed to recognize companies that were pivotal in propelling the country's economic growth.
In his address at the ceremony, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted the importance of a thriving private sector, stating, “Ghana thrives when the private sector thrives.”
He emphasized the government's commitment to supporting companies through digitalization initiatives and infrastructure development.
Dr. Bawumia encouraged the private sector to view the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a catalyst for economic expansion.
He stated, “The African Continental Free Trade Area, our compass for this journey, is not merely an agreement; it is a beacon guiding us towards a future where Ghana stands tall in the global marketplace.”
Yofi Grant, CEO of GIPC, noted investors' aggressive pursuit of opportunities in Accra and stressed the importance of strong alliances between investors and Ghanaian companies. He reiterated that the private sector remained the engine of Ghana's economic growth.
The Ghana Club 100 awards ceremony was preceded by a three-day Ghana Investment Week in October, bringing together investors, industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to address infrastructural bottlenecks and enhance intra-trade on the continent.
