In a collaborative effort with the First Sky Group, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency, has successfully relocated 300 flood victims to newly constructed houses.
The initiative aims to provide a permanent residence for those displaced by the flood caused by the water spillage from the Akosombo Dam.
Mr. Ablakwa commended the First Sky Group and local chiefs for their support in constructing the first phase of the new houses. He assured that he would cover rent and utility tariffs for the beneficiaries.
The project, named the Safe Alternative Housing Project, not only offers a new home to the displaced residents but also addresses the challenges faced by 800 first-year students of St. Kizito Senior High Technical School.
The MP pledged his commitment to initiating the second phase of the Safe Alternative Housing Project in the area. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, with Mr. Gawu Anthony highlighting the positive impact on his family's mental health after months of challenging living conditions.
Single mother Mrs. Vibutor Jennifer, while acknowledging that the new houses might not match the comfort of their lost homes, appreciated the gesture as a sign that the MP genuinely cares for the well-being of the community. She also appealed to Mr. Ablakwa to advocate for the restoration of their livelihoods.
