Tensions escalated in the NPP parliamentary primaries for Adansi Asokwa as incumbent Member of Parliament, KT Hammond, accused his rival, Samuel Binfoh Darkwah, of hiring thugs to assault his supporters. In a swift response, Binfoh Darkwah vehemently refuted the allegations, attributing them to Hammond's frustration over unsuccessful attempts to disqualify him from the race.
KT Hammond reported the alleged attacks to the police at the voting centre, claiming that Binfoh Darkwah not only deployed thugs but also faced threats from the Minister of Trade and Industry to use thugs against him.
In response, Binfoh Darkwah expressed bewilderment, stating, “I'm at a loss, I don't know anything about this, honestly. It's just a clear sign of frustration, a clear sign of someone desperate. If he doesn't know me, it's not news.”
He further addressed Hammond's unsuccessful attempts to have him disqualified, suggesting that the accusations stem from Hammond's desire for a popular acclamation, which did not materialize. Darkwah urged observers to consider the evident frustration and worry on Hammond's part.
“The last time [primaries] he was saved, but not this time around,” Darkwah concluded, emphasizing the intensity and high stakes of the ongoing parliamentary primaries in Adansi Asokwa.
