Ghana and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two nations during a bilateral meeting between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President Sergio Mattarella of Italy. The meeting took place on Friday, 21st July 2023, at the Quirinal Palace in Rome, as part of President Akufo-Addo's official visit to Italy.
President Mattarella praised Ghana for its adherence to democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, making it a beacon of democracy and stability in West Africa and the continent.
President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the long-standing strong relations between Ghana and Italy, highlighting successful Italian companies in Ghana, such as the engineering firm Impregilo, which constructed the Akosombo Dam.

The two leaders discussed collaboration in Ghana's pharmaceutical and agro-based industries, debt restructuring with Italy's support, and the development of their respective economies.
Both leaders recognized the importance of addressing global challenges and supported the reform of the United Nations Security Council to be more responsive to the needs of the world, particularly the nations of Africa.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver the keynote address at the 4th ECAM Summit in Rome, focusing on healthcare and food safety challenges and opportunities in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
