The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Upper East Region has expressed its gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated contributions of teachers to the region's education system.
Mr. Bright A. Lawoe, the Regional Director of GES, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to teachers during the region's celebration of World Teachers' Day.
In a statement signed by Mr. Nathaniel Nyaaba, the Regional Public Relations Officer for GES, Mr. Lawoe acknowledged the selfless sacrifices made by teachers to improve learning outcomes in schools across the region.
World Teachers' Day, established by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994, commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO and International Labour Organization recommendation on the status of teachers worldwide.
This annual celebration, observed on October 5th, recognizes the critical role of teachers in society.
This year's theme for World Teachers' Day was “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage.” The theme emphasizes the global need for an increased number of qualified and dedicated teachers to meet the growing demand for quality education.
The statement underlined the importance of teachers in shaping the future and providing the necessary knowledge and skills for individuals and nations to thrive.
It reiterated the GES's commitment to supporting teachers and ensuring their well-being to enhance the quality of education in the Upper East Region.
The celebration of World Teachers' Day serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of teachers and to address the challenges they face in the pursuit of quality education.
