The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will name one of the facilities in its new ministerial block after the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho in recognition of his outstanding service to Ghana’s diplomacy.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision during the late diplomat’s state funeral on July 31, describing Ambassador Gbeho as one of Ghana’s most distinguished public servants.

Mr. Ablakwa said the move was intended to preserve Ambassador Gbeho’s legacy, noting that his contributions to diplomacy, peacebuilding and public service had left a lasting impact on Ghana, Africa and the international community.
He described the late statesman as a model of integrity, competence and patriotism whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations of diplomats.
Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, a former Foreign Affairs Minister and former President of the ECOWAS Commission, died on June 14, 2026, at the age of 91 after more than six decades of public service.
