Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on South African authorities to intensify efforts to end the ongoing xenophobic attacks, describing the violence as damaging to Africa‘s image.
Speaking in Accra on July 27 while receiving another group of Ghanaian evacuees from South Africa, Mr. Ablakwa said Ghana would continue diplomatic engagements with South Africa to ensure the safety of foreign nationals.

The latest evacuation flight brought about 150 Ghanaians home, with around 1,000 more expected to return under the government’s voluntary evacuation programme.
Mr. Ablakwa assured the returnees of continued government support, including travel and reintegration allowances, employment assistance, healthcare, and psychological counselling.
He also pledged that Ghana would pursue compensation for properties abandoned in South Africa and confirmed that all evacuated Ghanaians had been screened, with none found to have criminal records.
The evacuation follows weeks of anti-migrant violence in South Africa, which has claimed the lives of two Ghanaians and forced thousands of foreign nationals to flee.
