The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Ernest Yaw Anim as the Member of Parliament representing the Kumawu constituency on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Following the certification by the Electoral Commission, Anim emerged as the elected MP for Kumawu with an impressive vote count of 15,264 in the by-election held on May 23, 2023.
Anim assumes his new role as MP for Kumawu after the unfortunate demise of the former MP, Philip Basoah.
During the ceremony, Anim took the oath of allegiance, administered by the Speaker. In acknowledgement of the occasion, the Speaker congratulated him, stating, “Congratulations, Honourable Member. You are now duly sworn in as the Member of Parliament for the Kumawu constituency.”
Expressing his gratitude, the newly elected MP extended his thanks to the Speaker for the opportunity granted to him.
In the by-election held on May 23, 2023, Anim secured a remarkable victory by polling 15,264 votes, defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwasi Amankwaa, as well as two independent candidates, both named Kwaku Duah.
Kwasi Amankwaa, the NDC candidate, received 3,723 votes, while Kwaku Duah (1) obtained 2,478 votes, and the other Kwaku Duah received 62 votes.
