Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe, Chairman of the 2024 National Campaign Committee of the NPP, has affirmed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's flag-bearer and current Vice President of Ghana, is not facing any pressure to announce his running mate for the upcoming general elections.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi after inaugurating the Ashanti Regional campaign team, Mr. Botwe emphasized that Dr. Bawumia would announce his preferred candidate for the running mate position at the appropriate time.
Contrary to public concerns over the delay in the announcement, Mr. Botwe assured that no specific candidate had been identified yet, and there had been no contentious discussions within the party regarding the selection process.
“We have not mentioned a particular candidate, and no such discussion had come up, but finding a running mate had never been our problem,” Mr. Botwe stated, dismissing any notion of internal strife or uncertainty within the party.
While some sections of the Ghanaian public have expressed apprehension over the prolonged delay in announcing the running mate, Mr. Botwe reiterated that Dr. Bawumia would reveal the candidate when the timing was deemed appropriate.
