The Africa Paralympic Committee (AfPC) President, Mr Samson Deen, has successfully concluded his eight-day working visit in North Africa. During the tour, President Deen visited Morocco and Egypt to discuss the inclusion of Para-Sports in the African Union (AU) and the Specialised Technical Committee (STC) Agenda.
President Deen expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of his visit, saying, “my eight-day working visit to Morocco and Egypt ended today with much hope for the Paralympic Movement in Africa”.
He added that the support of Youth and Sports Ministers of Egypt and Ghana, Dr Ashraf Sobhy and Mr Mustapha Ussif respectively, would enable the sports sector to gain the recognition it deserves in the African Union.
In his meetings with government officials and leaders of the National Paralympic Committees, President Deen was received with great hospitality and professionalism.
He expressed his gratitude to the National Paralympic Committee of Egypt, Dr Hayat Khattab, and Ibrahim Amin for their warm reception.
During his visit, President Deen emphasized the need for government support in hosting the first-ever Para Games.
He also urged his colleagues within the region to provide the necessary support for the successful hosting of the tournament in September this year.
Mr Abderrazzak Akkari, the Moroccan Sports Director at the Ministry of National Education, pledged the support of his government to host the Para Games in Ghana. He urged his colleagues within the region to provide the needed support to ensure the success of the tournament.
President Deen's next stop will be the West Africa Zone in April with a visit to Guinea Bissau and Nigeria to continue his agenda of expanding para-sport within the region.
