Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, has donated 400 mono desks to the Winneba Vocational Training Institute to enhance academic activities. This donation follows appeals made by the school and aligns with the MP's and government's commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for skills training at the Institute.
The MP has been instrumental in upgrading the Institute's infrastructure, having previously facilitated the construction of a well-furnished one-storey building equipped with an ultra-modern ICT laboratory, a fashion complex, a library, a 60-seater classroom, offices, and two pavilions—all funded by the MP.
During a brief ceremony to hand over the desks, Mr. Afenyo-Markin, also the Majority Leader of Parliament, highlighted the lack of significant improvements at the school for over 40 years until his intervention. He emphasized his collaboration with the government since 2016 to address this infrastructural deficit, particularly in light of the free vocational training policy.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the policy, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reassured the Institute of his ongoing commitment to resolving them, with plans to provide a new operational bus and elevate the Institute to the status of a premier training facility in the country.
Commending the government's free technical and vocational training policy, Mr. Afenyo-Markin praised its economic benefits for vulnerable individuals and the substantial increase in enrollment. He lauded the Institute's management for their dedication to imparting vocational knowledge and skills to students, urging them to maintain their commitment.
Mr. Martin Ekow Young, Principal of the Institute, expressed gratitude for the donation on behalf of the management and board, promising to utilize the resources effectively and ensure regular maintenance.
