Restore, a Foundation for Reconstructive Surgery based in the USA, is collaborating with the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) to provide free plastic reconstructive surgery.
The surgical mission will take place from November 6th to 10th, 2023, at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Mr. Ken Mensah, a Coordinator of the program, explained that the foundation is composed of doctors from various countries, including the USA, the United Kingdom, and several African nations.
Dr. Michael Obeng, a renowned Ghanaian plastic surgeon residing in the United States, will lead the surgical team.
The surgical cases to be addressed during this mission cover a wide range of conditions, including congenital limb deformities such as extra digits, syndactyly, congenital facial deformities like cleft lip and palate, post-traumatic deformities of limbs and the face, post-burn reconstruction of various body areas, soft tissue tumors (benign or malignant), breast anomalies (congenital or acquired), soft tissue defects, and genital anomalies.
All patients will undergo a screening process, and those requiring laboratory tests will need to cover the costs associated with these tests, as Mr. Mensah explained.
While the surgical services are offered free of charge, Mr. Mensah emphasized that patients should be prepared to pay for any necessary laboratory services. The registration and screening process is set to conclude on October 27, 2023.
Mr. Mensah encouraged all interested individuals to register at the HTH Customer Care Unit in the Central Out-Patients Department. Additionally, he reminded patients to bring their valid Health Insurance cards for the surgery.
The collaborative effort between the Restore Foundation and the Ho Teaching Hospital aims to make life-changing plastic reconstructive surgery accessible to those in need, enhancing the quality of life for patients with various conditions.
