Deputy CHRAJ Commissioner Richard Ackom Quayson dead

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice () has announced the passing of its Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Richard Ackom Quayson. The sad news was conveyed in a notice dated March 22, 2024, and signed by Mr. Henry Ashley, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, on behalf of the Commissioner.

According to the notice, Mr. Quayson passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2024, after a brief illness, leaving the community in mourning. The notice, made available to the (GNA), expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

Mr. Richard Ackom Quayson had a long and distinguished career at CHRAJ, having been appointed as Deputy Commissioner in August 2005. In this role, he oversaw the Commission's anti- mandate, as well as its public education and research efforts.

His tenure at CHRAJ dates back to 1993 when he joined as a senior legal officer. Prior to that, he served as a legal officer at the Office of the Ombudsman, the predecessor institution of CHRAJ, from 1987 to 1993. Mr. Quayson's dedication and expertise led to his appointment as the regional director for the Western and Central Regions before assuming the position of Deputy Commissioner.

Notably, Mr. Quayson chaired the National Working Group responsible for developing Ghana's National Anti- Action Plan (NACAP) and played a pivotal role in overseeing its implementation. As a lawyer, he specialized in human rights promotion and protection, administrative justice, and corruption prevention and investigations.

The passing of Mr. Richard Ackom Quayson represents a significant loss to CHRAJ and the broader human rights community in Ghana. His contributions and legacy will be remembered with deep appreciation and respect by all who had the privilege of working with him.

The CHRAJ community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant and extends its sincerest condolences to Mr. Quayson's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
