Renowned actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has tragically passed away at the age of 62. The veteran actor, celebrated for his comedic roles, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital, succumbing to a reported cardiac arrest.

Mr Ibu had been grappling with health challenges since October 2023, undergoing multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs. Despite initial concerns, updates from his family in November hinted at signs of recovery, offering a glimmer of hope to fans and well-wishers.

The President of the Actors Guild of (AGN), Emeka Rollas, confirmed the actor's demise, expressing deep grief. Mr Ibu's manager, Don Single Nwuzo, cited cardiac arrest as the cause of death. The actor had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital in Lekki a few days before his passing.

The minister expressed her condolences, stating that his death, coupled with the recent passing of Sisi Quadri, marked a sorrowful moment for the entertainment industry.

In 2019, Mr Ibu made headlines when he alleged that his kinsmen paid domestic workers to poison him due to his successful career. In an interview with Vanguard, he recounted the near-death experience, crediting the intervention of doctors for his recovery.

Mr Ibu's demise coincides with the recent death of another Nollywood actor, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, who was buried on Saturday in Iwo, Osun State.
