Mustapha Ussif, the Youth and Sports Minister, has unveiled that a substantial sum of $195 million has been allocated for infrastructure development in preparation for the 2023 African Games.
Set to transpire from March 8 to March 23, the Games will predominantly unfold at the Borteyman Sports Complex and University of Ghana Stadium, supplemented by support from 15 additional venues.
During a press briefing held on Monday, March 4, 2024, Minister Ussif provided a detailed breakdown of the infrastructure expenditure.
A significant portion of the funds, amounting to $145 million, has been channelled into the construction of a cutting-edge sports centre at Borteyman. Additionally, $34 million has been allocated for the renovation of the University of Ghana Stadium, while $16 million has been earmarked for the refurbishment of the Games Village.
Minister Ussif reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to the advancement of national athletes, expressing the intention to transform the Borteyman Sports Complex into a sports university.
This strategic initiative, according to him, is aligned with the broader objective of fostering the growth and nurturing the talents of Ghana's aspiring sports stars.
