The Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has imposed a two-year ban on three second cycle institutions following incidents of hooliganism during the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.

In a letter dated 11th February 2026 and addressed to the heads of the concerned schools, the Regional Education Directorate expressed dissatisfaction with disturbances that occurred before, during, and after the competition.

The directive was signed by Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu (PhD), Regional Director (Eastern Region).

Investigations revealed that students from the affected schools engaged in acts of hooliganism.

The actions breached Section 2.17 of the Ghana Education Service Code of Conduct, which addresses physical and psychological violence.

They also contravened Articles VII and VIII of the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association Code of Discipline, relating to disturbances, riots, hooliganism, and the applicable sanctions.

As a result, the three schools have been banned from organizing, participating in, or spectating at all sporting and related activities , including quizzes, debates, cadetting, and entertainment events ,at the school, zonal, and regional levels for a period of two years, effective 11th February 2026.

In addition to the suspension, each school has been fined GH¢500.00.

The institutions will also be required to cover the cost of any damage to property or injury to individuals, with the exact amount to be determined by a committee based on the extent of the damage.

The Regional Directorate has urged school authorities to ensure that students, staff, alumni, and supporters strictly adhere to all GES and ERSCSA regulations to prevent further disciplinary measures.
