The Ministry said reports that the teacher recently granted a media interview and issued a statement requesting a transfer to a village school should provide useful leads for investigators. It urged the Police to intensify efforts, including digital tracking and contacting the source of the interview, to locate the suspect.
According to the Ministry, available information indicates the teacher’s alleged misconduct was deliberate. It also claimed to have seen additional videos allegedly showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate behaviour with other girls, believed to be students.
The Ministry said Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has described the incident as unacceptable, shameful, and inconsistent with the standards expected of members of the teaching profession.
It also appealed to members of the public with information on the teacher’s whereabouts to report to the Police or the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry further expressed concern over increasing cases of indiscipline involving teachers, school heads, and students across the country, saying such incidents undermine teaching and learning and weaken public confidence in schools.
It said the Minister has directed the Ghana Education Service to take firm action against misconduct in pre-tertiary institutions in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
The Ministry also announced plans to convene a national dialogue on tackling growing indiscipline in schools to develop practical and sustainable measures for improving discipline in Ghana’s educational institutions.
