The Prestea Government Hospital in the has announced plans to initiate a mass burial for forty-two unidentified deceased individuals. Scheduled to take place between April 24 and 25, 2024, the exercise aims to alleviate congestion in the hospital's mortuary and is part of routine measures implemented by the institution.

A statement issued by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Djabatey Darko, and shared with the (GNA) in , revealed that some of the bodies had been stored in the hospital's morgue for over a decade.

The statement explained, “As of July 24, 2023, when we intended to conduct a mass burial, the mortuary held a total of forty-two unidentified bodies, but the exercise was delayed, hence a few more cases have been recorded.”

Importantly, the hospital assured that the mass burial exercise would not impact deceased individuals whose remains were deposited by their families and properly registered and receipted. Families of such deceased individuals were reassured that their relatives' bodies remained secure.
