The Nigerian Labour Party, led by presidential candidate Peter Obi, has declared that it will challenge the victory of the new president-elect, , in court.

According to the party's vice presidential candidate, the decision to challenge the election result is based on alleged irregularities and result manipulation during the election.

“We will challenge the result in court,” Obi's running mate said in a statement.

The election, which saw the governing All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu, win almost nine million votes, has been heavily contested by opposition parties who have called for the poll to be cancelled.

The results of 's presidential election have been described as the most hotly contested since the reintroduction of multiparty democracy in 1999.
