The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), in partnership with the Ghana National Gas Company, has successfully drilled a mechanized borehole for the Presbyterian Senior High School in Bompata, addressing water supply challenges faced by staff and students.
The 10,000-liter water system is a collaborative effort to enhance the school's facilities. Mrs. Rebecca Teiko Sabah, Director for Development and Social Services of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, emphasized the church's commitment to holistic development, mentioning four types of witnessing: spiritual, moral, environmental, and social.
“This project is part of the Church's social witnessing to provide relief for the less privileged in society,” said Mrs. Teiko Sabah. She also highlighted the project's alignment with government efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal Six, focusing on water and sanitation for all by 2030.
Encouraging students to develop a maintenance culture, Mrs. Teiko Sabah expressed her department's commitment to providing additional social services through partnerships.
The Headmaster of the School, Mr. Clifford Addo-Diabene, expressed gratitude for the borehole, freeing the school from water crises due to increased enrollment.
“With the mechanized borehole, the school is freed from long-distance travel in search of water, which will impact positively on academic work and the development of the school,” he added.
Mr. Addo-Diabene thanked stakeholders for the opportunity to access a clean and safe water source.
Reverend David Aboagye-Danquah, the Asante Akyem Presbytery Chairperson, highlighted the PCG's successful projects in building WASH facilities and schools in deprived communities.
Students expressed appreciation for the gesture, anticipating improved academic performance.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Ishmael Mantey Arkoh, Presbytery Lay Representative, Rev. Bright Baffour Boachie, The Presbytery DSS Director, The Bompata District Minister, Rev. Michael Badu, other Rev. Ministers, Emmanuel Nyarko Ankamah, Coordinator, PRESED, as well as staff and students of PRESEC.
