In a decisive victory, Mr. Ocloo Mawuli Egos has emerged as the winner in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primary election for the Akatsi South Constituency, defeating his opponent Mr. Martin Kofitsey Nyahe.
Ocloo secured an impressive 449 votes, while Nyahe gathered only 184, with six ballots rejected.
The Akatsi South Municipal Electoral Officer, Mrs. Akorfa Buabasa, declared the results, revealing a turnout of 633 valid votes out of the expected 713 delegates, representing 70.27% and 28.79% respectively.
In an interview, the victorious Ocloo, who is the 46-year-old Constituency Secretary of the Party, expressed his commitment to injecting energy and experience into the parliamentary front.
He emphasized the need for unity within the party and highlighted his years of dedicated service in various capacities, including as Constituency Secretary.
Ocloo, currently the Akatsi South Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, outlined his vision for a more vibrant youth front, fostering collaboration between the young and elderly to pursue common goals.
“It is time to prove to the people of Ghana that Akatsi South will be made for the NPP unlike in the olden days when only one party was popular,” he asserted.
Ocloo urged his supporters and fellow contenders to maintain decency in their political discourse, emphasizing the internal nature of the competition.
He will now face incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Lawyer Bernard Ahiafor, in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted with Mr. Philip Bokorga, the Volta Regional Deputy Youth Organiser of NPP, leading Ocloo in taking the Oath of Office.
