Party Responds to Interlocutory Injunction; Disqualifies Aspirant in Bimbilla
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the temporary suspension of its parliamentary primaries in the Nhyiaeso Constituency following the filing of an interlocutory injunction by one of the aspirants. This legal challenge has led to the postponement of the scheduled election in the constituency.
The decision was made during the National Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The party deemed it necessary to address the legal concerns raised by the aspirant through the injunction before proceeding with the primaries.
In addition to the temporary suspension, the NPP also confirmed the disqualification of an aspirant in the Bimbilla constituency. This move leaves the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, uncontested in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Furthermore, Lydia Seyram Alhassan is set to run unopposed in Ayawaso West-Wuogon after the party rejected the appeal of Owusu Amankwah, the former constituency youth organizer. The rejection of Amankwah's appeal solidified Alhassan's position as the sole candidate for the constituency.
The NPP parliamentary primaries, scheduled for January 27, will see approximately thirty other aspirants running unopposed in constituencies where the party already has representation. The party remains committed to a fair and transparent electoral process, addressing legal concerns to ensure the integrity of its internal democracy.
