The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its disapproval of some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for making derogatory comments about its 2024 flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In particular, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, recently referred to the NPP flagbearer and leader as a “religious prostitute,” insinuating that the Vice President's association with both churches and mosques was solely for political gain.
Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, called for an end to such name-calling, emphasizing that it must be condemned unequivocally. He also expressed his dismay at some NDC members who have joined in making inappropriate comments about Dr Bawumia.
Ahiagbah warned that such behaviour could have negative consequences for the country and called on the NDC to put a stop to it. He stressed the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence and urged that certain limits must not be crossed.
Ahiagbah also raised the issue of some NDC members who, as Christians, are seen attending mosques and interacting with Imams, asking whether such actions should label them as “religious prostitutes” and emphasizing that such comments only contribute to division.
