The New Africa Foundation, a proactive entity dedicated to addressing challenges on the African continent, is set to host “The Convention” 2024 in Ghana.
The event, designed to amplify African voices for the continent's development, is scheduled to take place on January 7 at Independence Square, coinciding with Ghana's Constitution Day.
Known for its extensive work in socio-economic empowerment, youth and women's advocacy, religion, health, education, and humanitarianism, the Foundation aims to bridge gaps and address critical issues on national, continental, and global scales.
In a statement released to the Ghana News Agency, the Foundation outlined that “The Convention” would encompass various facets of African excellence, bringing together thought leaders, artists, and diverse communities before a broad audience.
The event aims to serve as a microcosmic representation of the macrocosmic continent, including every stratum, community, and group within the country.
As part of the convention's activities, the Foundation, in collaboration with Afrokids, plans to distribute 5,000 pairs of shoes to those in need.
The overarching goal is to inform, inspire, and empower participants in the pursuit of Pan-Africanist ideals and the overall development of the continent.
Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao
Several distinguished speakers are confirmed for the maiden Convention, including Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao, a trailblazing Pan-African advocate from Zimbabwe, recognized for her commitment to unity among African nations and the diaspora, especially in areas such as women's empowerment, gender equality, education, and healthcare.
P. L. O. Lumumba
Professor P. L. O. Lumumba, a renowned African Legal Scholar and ardent Pan-African advocate from Kenya, will also address the Convention.
With a significant background as the former Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, Prof Lumumba is globally recognized for compelling speeches on African politics and socio-economic challenges, advocating for African unity and development.
Julius Malema
Julius Malema, a dynamic and influential politician from South Africa, known for his impassioned commitment to social justice and economic equality, will also be present.
Mr Malema, the Founder and Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, has fervently crusaded for the rights of the marginalized and for economic transformation in South Africa.
Peter Obi
Peter Obi, a luminary in Nigerian politics, celebrated for his integrity and exceptional leadership acumen, is another esteemed speaker.
With a background in economics and a successful business stint, Mr. Obi served as the Governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, focusing on transformative policies in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
