Man sentenced for assaulting teacher over disappearing penis claim

The Awutu Breku District Court has sentenced Emmanuel Agbeshie, a 22-year-old apprentice, to eight months in prison after he assaulted a teacher whom he accused of causing his penis to disappear. Agbeshie pleaded guilty to charges of assault, causing harm, publication of false news, and deceit of a public officer.

The court presided over by Mrs. Naomi A. A. Kuntour, also imposed fines totalling GH¢ 2,400 for the assault and an additional GH¢ 1,200 each for the charges of publication of false news and deceit of a public officer. Failure to pay these fines would result in further imprisonment.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2024, when Mr. Charles Bimpong Appiah, a teacher at Ghana International Senior High School in Dodowa, was visiting relatives in . Agbeshie attacked him with a stone, alleging that a touch from Mr. Appiah had made his penis disappear. The assault took place under a tree along the Nyanyano road.

Police personnel from the Central East Command Legal Department, who were nearby on a sensitization tour, intervened, arresting Agbeshie and assisting the injured teacher. Medical examinations at the Kasoa Polyclinic and later at Saint Gregory and Catholic Hospital confirmed that Mr. Appiah had suffered significant injuries. Further medical examination of Agbeshie by Dr. Bediako reported that his penis was “stable, normal, and intact.”

In addition to his sentence, the court ordered Agbeshie to sign a 12-month bond to be of good behaviour upon his release from prison. He is also required to pay all medical expenses incurred by Mr. Appiah and compensate him with GH¢ 4,800.
