The Hands of Gold Foundation (HOGF), an Accra-based non-governmental organization (NGO), has made a significant donation of equipment and consumables to the Cape Coast Psychiatric Hospital to support mental healthcare delivery in the country.
The donated items included BP Apparatus, Digital/Infra-red thermometers, Suction machines, Clinical Weighing scales, Stethoscopes, Bedside screens, Nebulizer waste bins, wall clocks, and various consumables, such as psychotropic medications, assorted cake soaps, bar soaps, cleaning tools, drinking cups, and bottled mineral water.
Mr. Rex Kumordzi, the Manager of Administration and Policy Coordination at HOGF, presented the items on behalf of the foundation.
He stressed the importance of supporting care providers in treating individuals suffering from mental illnesses, considering the alarming increase in mental health challenges in the country.
Mr. Kumordzi emphasized the need for compassion and care toward mentally challenged individuals, highlighting their vulnerability within society.
He noted that it was the collective duty of citizens to ensure the protection and well-being of these individuals.
The donation to the Cape Coast Psychiatric Hospital was part of the activities commemorating the third anniversary of the Hands of Gold Foundation.
Mr. Kumordzi expressed his hope that the items would alleviate the burden on the hospital's day-to-day administration and benefit both the facility and its inmates.
Mr. Charles Ofosuhene, the Principal Nursing Officer at the hospital and Quality Assurance Coordinator extended gratitude to HOGF for their timely support.
He urged individuals and corporate institutions to consider supporting mental health facilities, especially during challenging times.
Mr. Ofosuhene also expressed the hope that the Hands of Gold Foundation would adopt the hospital for regular support.
The donation from HOGF is expected to make a positive impact on the mental health care services provided by the Cape Coast Psychiatric Hospital.
