The Assembly members of the Kadjebi District Assembly in the Oti Region have elected Mr Charles Nyame Kormisah, a Government Appointee and Headmaster of Ntruboman SHS, as their Presiding Member (PM).
Out of the 52 Assembly members present and voting, Mr. Kormisah, who ran unopposed, secured 45 YES votes, representing 86.5%, and seven NO votes, representing 13.5%.
Mr. Anthony Ahiable, Assemblyman for Wawaso Electoral Area, who initially contested against Mr. Kormisah, withdrew from the race citing the progress of the Kadjebi District as his reason. He urged his fellow Assembly members to throw their support behind Mr. Kormisah.
Administering the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to Mr. Kormisah was Mr. Joseph Evans Anang Okropa, Judge of Kadjebi and Nkwanta South Magistrate Courts.
Expressing his gratitude in an acceptance speech, Mr Kormisah expressed excitement about his election and interpreted the significant YES votes as a sign of teamwork and unity. He pledged to ensure judicious use of the Assembly's resources and promised to consult and collaborate with fellow Assembly members for the development of the Kadjebi District. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the district for progress to be realized.
Before the election, Mr. Cletus Chevure, Secretary to the Assembly, and the District Coordinating Director appealed to the Assembly members to adopt best practices and vote to elect a PM once and for all.
The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission, led by Mr. Justice Odame-Frempong, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer.
Furthermore, the Assembly members have adopted English, Twi, and Ewe as official languages to be used during District Assembly sittings, enhancing inclusivity and effective communication within the Assembly.
