Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has extended his heartfelt condolences to Hajia Suwera Bawa and the family of the late Alhaji Rashid Bawa, former Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria. Alhaji Bawa, who passed away last Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria, was honoured by Mr Mahama during a visit to the family residence in Kadjebi, Oti Region.
Accompanied by Mr Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff, Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, Oti Regional Chairman of the NDC, and Mr Yao Gomado, Member of Parliament (MP) of Akan Constituency, among others, Mr Mahama expressed his sorrow and signed the Book of Condolence. His poignant message read: “It is with great sadness I sign this Book of Condolence for my friend, colleague, and brother, Rashid Bawa. May God grant you peaceful rest.”
Reflecting on their shared experiences, Mr Mahama reminisced about their time together in Parliament, highlighting their camaraderie despite being on opposite sides of the political spectrum. He fondly recalled their last meeting in Abuja at the end of last year, unaware that it would be their final farewell.
Following the visit, Mr. Mahama continued his political tour in the Oti Region, proceeding to Worawora in the Biakoye District. Alhaji Bawa, whose illustrious career included serving as Ghana's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2008, was also the Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 polls.
His political journey also saw him as the former Independent Candidate MP for Akan Constituency from 2000 to 2004. Alhaji Bawa's contributions to the political landscape were remembered during his burial on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Kadjebi, adhering to Islamic customs.
