The Black Princesses of Ghana have advanced to the finals of the women's football competition in the ongoing 13th African Games, following a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Monday.
Ophelia Amponsah and Tracey Twum were instrumental in extending Ghana's unbeaten record, contributing two goals and one goal respectively to secure the team's spot in the final.
The breakthrough for Ghana came in the 18th minute when Twum delivered a remarkable goal, putting her side in the lead. Despite the early advantage, Ghana continued to apply pressure on the visitors, maintaining their dominance on the field.
Amponsah's last-minute strike before halftime added to Ghana's lead, putting them two goals ahead as they entered the break. However, Senegal managed to pull one back in the 53rd minute, momentarily narrowing the deficit.
Any hopes of a Senegalese comeback were dashed when Amponsah sealed the victory for Ghana with her second goal, just two minutes after Senegal's score.
Meanwhile, Nigeria secured their place in the finals by defeating Uganda with a scoreline of two unanswered goals.
The Black Princesses will now face Nigeria's Falconets in the finals scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
