In a move aligned with the “Beyond the Return” initiative, a 10-year project aimed at connecting Africans in the diaspora with their roots, the Ministry of Transport has announced the introduction of a non-approval visa on arrival for passengers travelling to Ghana.
The initiative, built on seven pillars, is a continuation of the successful 2019 Year of Return in Ghana.
The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with other key government entities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Tourism Authority, has approved the waiver of prior approval for passengers opting for visa-on-arrival.
This arrangement is set to be effective from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024.
Passengers are now allowed to choose visa-on-arrival without the need for prior approval during this period.
The Ministry urges airlines to update their systems accordingly, and check-in personnel are advised not to insist on entry visas before boarding.
The announcement was signed by Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Honorable Minister of Transport, reflecting the government's commitment to fostering closer ties with the African diaspora.
