The Ghana-Chinese Enterprise Chamber of Commerce has stepped in to provide aid to the communities affected by the Akosombo Dam Spillage in South Tongu.
The President of the Chamber, Mr. Yang Qun, emphasized the importance of community support during crises and expressed pride in the Chamber's proactive efforts to assist flood victims, particularly children.
Mr. Qun highlighted the impact of the spillage on education and health in the affected communities and hoped that the donation, including student mattresses, pillows, rice, oil, stationary, and financial contributions, would contribute to relief efforts.
He underscored the longstanding relations between Ghana and China and the sense of shared responsibility in times of adversity.
The donated items and funds, totaling GH₵550,000.00, were handed over to the affected communities. Togbe Afede XIV, Agogbomefia of the Asogli State, acknowledged the ongoing consequences of the spillage and called for unity and resilience in the face of difficulties.
Members of Parliament for South Tongu and Ketu-South, Mr. Kobena Mensah Wayome and Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, expressed gratitude for the Chamber's support, acknowledging that while the items may not erase the grief and trauma, they would provide some relief to the affected residents.
