Mr Bawa Fuseini, the President of Ghana Athletics, has issued a warning against the imposition of athletes on the federation for the 13th Africa Games. He emphasized that Ghana Athletics is an independent body with clearly defined criteria for athlete selection into the National Team. The president urged the public to refrain from suggesting or imposing athletes, emphasizing that the federation has established processes for athlete selection.
Mr Fuseini made these remarks during an interview after the launch of a weeklong World Athletics Referee Examination Certification System Level One training at the Accra Sports Stadium. The training aims to produce qualified and quality officiating officials for the upcoming African Games. The president emphasized the importance of having Ghanaian officials officiate at the Games to build the country's human capacity in athletics.
The training includes theory and practical components, with three stages of practical tests before participants can be certified. The practical tests will take place at the Borteyman Sports Complex, the University of Ghana for the Schools Athletics event, and the African Games. The goal is to have Ghanaian officials solely officiate athletics events at the African Games.
