The engagement followed an earlier intervention by Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, after her meeting with Mr John Jinapor, Minister for Energy, and representatives of the Concerned Customers of ECG. The Energy Minister had promised to dispatch a technical team to resolve service-related issues in the area.
During the meeting, residents voiced dissatisfaction with persistent overbilling, a shortage of meters, illegal meter installations, and poor customer relations at the ECG Denu office. Many called for immediate and transparent measures to restore confidence in the utility provider.
Responding to the concerns, Madam Jato Kaleo acknowledged verified cases of overbilling and announced that ECG would conduct community-by-community meter assessments across Ketu South to identify and correct billing discrepancies. She disclosed that 2,000 new meters had been allocated from Accra to clear the backlog of pending applications and assured customers that emergency contact lines would be available for reporting delays or denials in meter acquisition.
On customer relations, she said ECG would embark on internal reviews and staff retraining at the Denu office to promote professionalism, efficiency, and improved service delivery. Residents were also urged to report all illegal or unapproved meters for replacement with standard units in line with national safety and regulatory standards.
The meeting concluded positively, with community members expressing optimism that the promised field assessments and corrective measures would provide lasting relief to residents across Ketu South Municipality.
