The Fire Service Ladies Association (FISLA), a wing of the Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has marked its 30th anniversary with a breast cancer awareness and screening exercise.
The event, held at the GNFS Regional Headquarters in Fijai, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, was themed “From Spark to Flames: Tracing the Growth and Progress of FISLA Over the Past 30 Years.”

Nurses from the Fijai Catholic Hospital educated participants, including FISLA members, Fire Assistants, and other service personnel, on the signs, symptoms, preventive measures, and self-examination techniques for early detection of breast cancer.
Following the health education session, about 70 personnel underwent free cancer screening.
Divisional Officer (DO) II Dorcas Dadzie, President of FISLA, encouraged women to remain courageous and resilient in male-dominated professions, saying such strength was vital for national development.
As part of the celebration, FISLA also organised fun and recreational activities such as ludo, cards, oware, musical chairs, dancing competitions, and volleyball matches in collaboration with the Prisons Ladies Association.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II David Asah Darko, Western Regional GNFS Commander, commended FISLA for its efforts in promoting health awareness and social engagement among service members. He urged the group to continue working diligently and contributing their quota to the nation’s progress.
