Government inspects reclaimed mining site at Manso Adubia

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, together with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Armah Kofi Buah, has paid a working visit to a successfully reclaimed mining site at Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The site, which was previously degraded by illegal mining activities, has now been fully restored to safe and productive use.

The reclaimed land represents a significant environmental transformation. Areas that were once unsafe, environmentally damaged, and unproductive have been rehabilitated into fertile land capable of supporting livelihoods and promoting ecological stability.

According to Dr. Amoakohene, the success of the reclamation demonstrates that environmental degradation caused by illegal mining can be reversed through strong enforcement, responsible management, and effective collaboration with local communities.

The reclamation project was carried out in partnership with Newmont Ghana Limited as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Dr. Amoakohene commended Newmont Ghana Limited for its commitment to sustainable mining practices and environmental stewardship, noting that such partnerships are critical to restoring degraded lands and safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources.

He also acknowledged the contributions of key institutions involved in the reclamation process, including the Forestry Commission of Ghana, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat, the Minerals Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the District Assembly, and traditional authorities.

Their coordination and oversight, he said, were essential to the success of the project.

Beyond environmental restoration, the site holds additional national significance as it hosts a critical gas pipeline operated by the Ghana National Gas Company.

Securing and reclaiming the land therefore enhances public safety, protects strategic national infrastructure, and ensures the uninterrupted supply of energy to homes, businesses, and industries.

Dr. Amoakohene reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reclaiming degraded lands across the country, stressing that each restored site strengthens communities, protects vital infrastructure, and advances sustainable development.

He emphasized that the ongoing efforts in the Ashanti Region reflect a broader national resolve to restore lands, protect citizens, and build a resilient future for Ghana.
