Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East Constituency, has made a significant investment of approximately GHȻ80,000.00 to enhance healthcare outcomes and community-led health initiatives in his constituency.
The MP's investment involved providing essential resources, such as bags of cement, roofing sheets, and cash contributions to support healthcare infrastructure projects initiated by local communities.
Mr. Abu Baliffiamah, the Wa East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), acted on behalf of the MP to deliver the items to the beneficiary communities.
These communities had undertaken the construction of delivery rooms and maternity wards, aiming to strengthen health infrastructure within the region and improve access to maternal healthcare services.
The first batch of beneficiary communities, including Chaggu, Goripie, Manwe, Tinnebe, and Loggu, received between 20 and 30 bags of cement, along with cash amounts ranging from GHȻ500.00 to GHȻ1,000.00 each.
Mr. Baliffiamah emphasized that the donation signified the MP's commitment to enhancing access to healthcare services, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. He stated, “The MP is taking steps to support communities to have decent delivery rooms in all health facilities across the constituency.
This is to ensure zero maternal deaths and infant mortality in the constituency.”
Dr. Jasaw explained that the poor state of the road network in the Wa East Constituency has been a barrier to quality healthcare services, especially for pregnant women, who sometimes face life-threatening difficulties during childbirth.
He expressed his intention to continue the support for additional communities, further stating, “It is better to improve the facilities in the communities to enhance the quality of services that pregnant women and children can receive.”
In addition to the healthcare infrastructure projects, Dr. Jasaw also made a generous contribution to local youth development by donating footballs and football jerseys to several communities, including Buffiamah, with the aim of nurturing the football talents of the constituency's youth.
Mr. Rashid Sunday, representing the Chagu community, extended his gratitude to the MP for the valuable support, expressing the community's commitment to completing their delivery room project promptly.
This initiative will contribute to improved access to timely and high-quality maternal healthcare services for women in the community and surrounding areas.
