Pastor Francis Kodom, the Agbozo Location Pastor of Deeper Life Bible Church in the Sunyani Municipality, has urged Christian youth to reconsider their reliance on online Bible versions during church services. Speaking at an Easter Retreat for the church's youth division, Pastor Kodom expressed concern over the widespread use of online Bible versions on mobile phones, which he believes may distract and deprive many young worshippers of the blessings intended during church gatherings.
During his sermon on “social media pressure and Christian living,” Pastor Kodom advised the youth to reserve the use of online Bibles for private studies at home or in school, emphasizing the importance of printed copies during communal worship.
The Easter Retreat, themed “The all-sufficient Jesus,” attracted hundreds of young participants from various districts and locations of the church. The event featured live transmission sermons from Dr. William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
While acknowledging the benefits of social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Twitter (now X), and Facebook, Pastor Kodom cautioned against excessive usage, warning that uncontrolled consumption could lead to spiritual detriment. He encouraged the youth to harness these platforms for positive purposes, including evangelism, to advance the Kingdom of God.
Highlighting the potential dangers of social media, Pastor Kodom warned that it could sway believers from their faith and expose them to harmful influences like online pornography and occultism. However, he emphasized the liberating power of Jesus Christ to free individuals from such captivity if they willingly surrender to God.
In conclusion, Pastor Kodom urged Christian youth to exercise discernment in their use of social media and to prioritize spiritual growth and adherence to Christian principles.
