Police arrest three suspected kidnappers after exchange of gunfire during rescue operation in Wapuli, Yendi District

Police in the Yendi District have arrested three suspected kidnappers after officers tracked them to Wapuli and engaged them in an exchange of gunfire during a rescue mission earlier today.

The suspects, 31-year-old Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bande, and 40-year-old Osman Bande, reportedly opened fire as police moved in to free a kidnapped victim.

Officers returned fire, subdued the suspects, and rescued the victim without injuries.

Investigators say the group had earlier demanded a GH¢100,000 ransom from the victim’s family.

At the scene, officers retrieved a bag containing GH¢70,000, believed to be part of the amount already paid.

A fourth suspect managed to escape and is believed to have fled with injuries.

A manhunt is underway to locate and arrest him.

Police also recovered three motorbikes and a Samsung phone abandoned during the operation.

The arrested suspects are in custody and expected to be arraigned soon, marking a significant breakthrough as authorities confront rising kidnapping-for-ransom activity in the region.
