Airforce Corporal Seidu Abubakar, the seventh accused person in the trial over an alleged high treason plot, has stated that he was not part of the meeting that birthed the alleged plan to overthrow the government.
He also denied participating in discussions held at the Next Door Beach Resort in Teshie on the subject matter.
During his evidence-in-chief at the High Court, Corporal Abubakar admitted knowing Lance Airforce Corporal (LAC) Ali Solomon, the eighth accused person, as they were colleagues in the Ghana Armed Forces and lived in the same barracks.
He mentioned that in September 2018, he and Ali were on their way to buy fish when they received a call from their neighbour, Sylvester Akankpewu, to meet him at the Beach Resort.
He further explained that when they arrived, they saw a group of people gathered under one of the summer huts, and they settled under another. Ali Solomon then had a private conversation with Sylvester, in which Abubakar was not involved.
During cross-examination, Abubakar refuted claims that he and the others were incited to repeat the 1979 coup d'etat, which was staged by some junior-ranked military officers.
He maintained that he did not know what was discussed or who the participants were during the said meeting on June 27, 2018.
The trial involves several individuals, including the late Dr. Frederick Mac Palm, Donyo Kafui, Debrah, Johannes Zikpi, Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, Warrant Officer Class Two Esther Saan, Dekuwine, Corporal Sylvester Akankpewon, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Benjamin Agordzo. All of them have pleaded not guilty to their respective charges.
